Get started with EMTP

Training objectives

The objective of this training is to familiarize you with the usage of EMTP and the study of power-system transients. How to model a power system for EMT simulations, what scenarios to run and how to interpret the results are some of the subjects that will be addressed. The training will also provide an introduction to EMT studies of renewable energy systems.

The EMTP software is used to demonstrate the transient analysis concepts and to provide practical examples. Prior experience with EMTP is not required.

Training structure 

The duration of the training is 2 days. 
The training starts at 9 am and ends at 5.30 pm every day.
Lunch breaks are from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm.
The training is presented in English.

Computer and temporary EMTP license

Each participant will need to bring a personal computer. EMTP temporary licenses will be provided for the duration of the course.

Instructor biography :

Mihajlo Curcic is an EMTP engineer based in Montreal, Canada. He holds a M.Eng. degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland where he completed a 2-year research project in the field of marine energy. Mihajlo’s background includes 5 years of experience in engineering simulation, with a focus on transient analysis of power systems.

  • Presentation of the EMTP user interface
  • How to create a simple circuit and run a simulation?
    • Standard part libraries
    • Switching studies examples

12:30 - 1:30 PM: Lunch

1:30 - 3:30 PM: Introduction to the graphical user interface EMTPWorks (Part 2)

  • Introduction to EMTP postprocessing - MPLOT & Scopeview
  • Sub-circuit creation and hierarchical designs

3:30 - 3:45 PM: Coffee Break

3:45 - 5:30 PM: EMTP Control library

  • Inverter control model

 

Day 2

09:00 - 09:45AM: Load flow simulation

  • Setting up a load flow study
  • Analysis of load flow results

09:45 - 10:30 AM: Machine modelling

  • Synchronous machine modeling
  • Exciters, Governors and Stabilizers

10:30 - 10:45 AM: Coffee Break

10:45 - 12:30 PM: Line and cable modelling in EMT-type tools

  • Line and cable data functions
  • Line and cable model types
  • Frequency scan

12:30 - 1:30 PM: Lunch

1:30 - 3:30 PM: Wind park and PV park modeling for EMT simulations

  • Wind and PV park models

3:30 - 3:45 PM: Coffee Break

3.45 - 5:00 PM: PV park harmonic analysis

Participants will have to pay 100% in advance before the course.

Advance payment is required by Credit Card (*5% tax will apply on credit card payment) or by Bank wire Transfer.

Cancellation can be made according to POWERSYS’ General Conditions for training:

In case you cannot attend the training after having registered, please contact us as soon as possible at marketing@powersys.fr
In case of cancellation three weeks or more before the beginning of the training, the participants will not be charged.
In case of cancellation less than three weeks before the beginning of the training, POWERSYS will charge the participant 50% of the training fees.

Please note that POWERSYS will not reimburse any travel and/or accommodation expenditure in case of cancellation of the training.
We recommend you to make your travel arrangements once the training is confirmed.
